Duluth Area Hits The 70s For First Time In Over 200 Days
This is the news we all need right now: the Duluth area finally made it into the 70s for the first time in over 200 days!
The exciting milestone hit on Wednesday (May 20th). The National Weather Service of Duluth wrote about it on their Facebook page right as it happened. Here's what they had to say:
This is VERY welcome news, especially because most of us are looking to get outside more as we continue to quarantine and social distance amid COVID-19.
What makes this news even more welcome is that fact that we haven't seen a temperature in the 70s in Duluth since early October, which seems like a different life ago. To be exact, the last time we were that warm was 224 days ago. Wow!
Recently, The Weather Channel released their predictions on what we can expect for the summer ahead. For most of our region, we can expect near or slightly above average temperatures which means this may be the beginning of a pretty nice summer.
This may also be a good sign for those hoping for an early summer. The Northland typically sees its last frost between May 11th through the 31st. If temperatures stay this warm, it may mean our last frost is already behind us. (This is the Northland though so it is always good to expect the unexpected. Ha!)
The Old Farmer's Almanac predicted a cool end of May, with a few thunderstorms. We will have to wait and see if their predictions end up coming true or if this warm weather is here to stay.
