Downtown Duluth Traffic Advisory Released for Grandma’s Marathon
Grandma's Marathon is coming June 17, which means a lot of fun and excitement in the Northland. It also means working through a lot road closures and traffic, but the Greater Downtown Council is helping by releasing a traffic advisory well in advance.
The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon starts at 6:15 a.m. just north of the Clearwater Grille. Grandma’s Marathon starts at 7:45 a.m. near Sonju in Two Harbors. Both races finish in Canal Park, Duluth.
With an estimated 19,000 runners expected to participate, there will roads closed and an influx of people in the area.
The Greater Downtown Council says to expect the following:
- Lake Avenue will remain open during the races; however, there will be traffic congestion on Lake Avenue and in the downtown Duluth area on Saturday, June 17 from the hours of 6:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
- Superior Street from 12th Ave East to 5th Ave West will remain closed until approximately 2:45 p.m. To avoid traffic problems or time delays, it is suggested that you plan your trips in and out of the Park Point area either before 6:15 a.m. or after 2:45 p.m.
Also, if you plan on being in the Canal Park area on Friday, June 16, remember that the William A. Irvin 5K will take place at 6:00 p.m. You can expect minor traffic delays from 5:45 p.m. to about 7:00 p.m. in that area.
Have a fun race weekend and good luck to all the runners. If you'd like to volunteer on race day, Grandma's Marathon would welcome your efforts.
