Don’t Be This Person At After School Pick-up In Minnesota + Wisconsin
After-school pick-up can be the most frustrating part of the day this winter. Huge snow banks this winter are causing narrow streets and traffic jams because people lack common sense.
Traffic gets backed up each and every day at my daughter's school because people will try to turn down in the opposite direction of the majority of traffic. Yes, this is a two-way street legally, but in the winter when you have every car pointing in the other direction, let's face it. It's not a two-way street anymore.
I'm not kidding, there could be 5 or 6 cars going in one direction with cars parked on the side, and people will still drive toward the traffic jam from the other direction. Do they not understand that two cars can't possibly fit between the parked cars and the snowbank or residents' yards?
A lot of the time they'll try to wave you through a space wide enough for a refrigerator to maybe fit through. Then I have to signal them and shrug my shoulders and wave my hands in a spreading motion while mouthing "I can't fit," without coming across as aggressive.
You finally figure a way to get past that one, and half a block down another person comes barreling in head-on. Now you have to go through the whole traffic jam dance once again, growing even more irritated.
If you finally make it past the gauntlet of oncoming cars, congratulations! You did what many people behind you haven't. The next thing to tackle is parents who block traffic waiting for their kids. That's enough for now! Hang in there!
