New Netflix Movie Features Scene In Duluth
A new movie on Netflix is showing the Northland a little bit of love and by the looks of it, the movie is turning into a pretty big hit! The movie just dropped this month and a listener let us in on the fact that we got some love about an hour in.
The film is called Dog Gone and features a famous cast, including Rob Lowe and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. The story is a feel-good film and a Netflix original. It premiered on the streaming platform on January 13th.
The film is based on a true story about a dog that goes missing and the journey the family goes on to find him and give him the medication he needs to stay alive. Based on the description, it seems it could also be a thriller film.
The dog in the film, by the way, is a golden retriever mix named Gonker. The film is set in the Appalachia trail and Virginia, according to Netflix. It is based on a book of the same name, which came out in 2016.
So how in the world does Duluth come into play here? It's a small world, even in the land of Netflix. The shout out happens just before the fifty-three minute mark, when one of the characters gets a call from someone named Alex Olson, who hails from Duluth.
At the bottom of the screen, it also says "Duluth, Minnesota" so those that haven't ever been our way know where the scene is taking place. Olson tells the person on the other end of the line, a woman named Jenny Marshall who is helping search for the dog, that he heard about Gonker in the local Duluth News Tribune, which is another fun shoutout.
Olson then tells Marshall a tip that could help get the lost dog back while his own dog is spotted walking around the office. Maybe our city was chosen to highlight the fact that Minnesotans are nice, since the man was calling to give a tip. That's my theory!
The scene is short and sweet and that is the only time Duluth is mentioned. The movie continues to show different places and people around the world who are calling to give tips about the missing dog. How fun that Duluth was one of those that was chosen.
That's not the only Duluth to Hollywood connection I have discovered this week. I recently learned that a Duluth actress named Bailey Stender has been cast on a new Paramount+ show called Wolf Pack. The show officially premieres on Thursday so save the date.
