After getting a new puppy, the question came up, do you need to register your pet with the City of Duluth?  After research, I found you do, and for bees and chickens, if you plan to keep them too!  Plus, if you want a dance hall or plan on running a coin operated device.  There's a license for just about everything you want to do or own and some of them left me scratching my head!

Whether you own a dog or cat within the city of Duluth, you are required to have them licensed, yearly. The license period is from January 1 to December 31 and must be renewed every year. Once you have a license for your pet, you will receive a renewal notice in the mail each December.  Thanks, that's one more thing I don't have to worry about at the end of the year!

LICENSE INFORMATION NEEDED:

  •  Owner's Name, Address and Phone Number.
  •  Pet's Name, Breed, Color, Sex, and Species (dog or cat).
  •  Rabies Certificate stating the rabies shot expiration date, or birthdate if pet is too young. (Enclose in the mail, or bring with you to City Hall, the original document from your veterinarian. It will be returned to you.)
  • Spaying or Neutering Certificate if you pet has been altered. (Enclose in the mail, or bring with you to City Hall, the original document from your veterinarian. It will be returned to you.)

So, if you haven't had time to get your pet spayed or neutered, this will get you on the ball!

You can choose to mail the $8.00 fee plus the application and information listed above to the City Clerk's Office and the license, tag and any original certificates you sent will be mailed back.  Or, bring the $8.00 fee plus the information listed above to the City Clerk's Office between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Very interesting to find all the things that require a permit or license in our City! Good to know if you plan on owning your own business, or buying chickens to have fresh eggs :)
