Distracting Habits To Avoid While Driving
Ah - the open road. No matter how 'forward-thinking' the inventors of the automobile though they were, no one could have ever foreseen the changes, impacts, and ways that the gasoline combustion engine would revolutionize our lives in every way. To most - it's inconceivable to think of life without the easy of mobility and transportation that automobiles provide. Work or play - they serve a vital role in our daily lives.
Perhaps it's human nature, though that we tend to take almost everything in our lives for granted - no matter how revolutionary they might be. While driving a car may have seemed original or novel to those who lived a generation or two ago when vehicles first came on the seen, the task of using a car has become routine and commonplace to most of us. As such - many of us also pay less attention to what we're doing while we're behind the wheel.
One only needs to check the statistics involving automobile crashes to see the effect that distracted driving has. According to the United States Department of Transportation, 3142 people were killed in an automobile crash that was caused by distracted driving in 2019. And it doesn't take long for the distraction to become a (deadly) problem. "Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that's like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed".
One of the problems with distracted driving is that it's so subconsciously done that we don't even realize that we're doing it. That's why it's important to identify those habits that we might have and change them. It could save someone's' life - including yours.
