Chris Young gave an emotional performance of his upcoming release "Drowning," at the historic Grand Ole Opry last week (June 6).

"So tonight I'm gonna pull out pictures / Ones with you in 'em / Laugh and cry a little while reminiscing by myself," Young sings. "I can't help at all but think about it / How you were taken way too soon / It ain't the same here without you /  I've gotta say, missin' you comes in waves / And tonight I'm drowning."

The song tugs at the heartstrings of anyone who has lost a loved one. Young co-wrote the song with Cory Crowder and Josh Hoge after the death of a close friend. This song follows his lead single "Raised on Country" off of his upcoming album of the same name.

Young initially teased the new song in a social media post from tour rehearsals. "Can’t wait for the tour this year," he writes. "Sad song but one of my favorites I’ve written... “I’ve gotta say, missing you comes in waves, and tonight I’m drowning."

"Last week, I debuted my new tune 'Drowning' at the Grand Ole Opry and broke down in the middle of it," he wrote in his Facebook post. "Since then so many people have shared stories of loved ones lost and how they have connected to this song. I want you guys to have this one, and make it your own, so I’m going to release it this Friday."

Young began his Raised on Country Tour in May alongside support from Chris Janson, Dylan Scott, LoCash and Jimmie Allen.
