If you are a fan of Chipotle which many of us are, according to a new study, the bowls that they are using have been linked to a chemical causing cancer. According to a study from New Food Economy the compostable bowls are eco friendly but  may be treated with a toxic compound known as forever chemicals.

According to the New York Post New Food Economy tested 14 locations of 8 New York City Restaurants including Chipotle. Four other restaurants also use these same bowls  (Fresh & Co., Sweet Green, Dos Toros and Dig Inn) none of which are in the Twin Ports area.

Test performed on the bowls contained Fluorine which indicated that the chemicals used in the bowls were meant to make them more durable. The presences of these types of chemicals have been linked to health problems such as kidney and testicular cancer, thyroid disorders, and hypertension in pregnant women.

Chipotle said in a statement Wednesday that the chain strives to meet regulatory requirements.

“As evidenced in Chipotle’s Sustainability Report, we are committed to using safe and sustainable food packaging and only partner with suppliers who make fluorochemical sciences and food safety a top priority,” the statement said. “These suppliers operate under strict guidelines set forth by the FDA, and have all provided Chipotle with certification that all raw material and finished pulp products fully meet regulatory requirements.”
