Does This Rainy June In Minnesota Wash Away Mosquito Yard Treatment?
The mosquitos are terrible this year. It's been one of the worst years we've had in a long time, and many people are looking to get their yards professionally treated by mosquito control companies. The problem is it's hard to find a day lately when we don't have rain.
You can't apply mosquito yard spray in the rain.
The mosquito control companies will go around the perimeter of your property and use backpack sprayers to spray the oil-based insecticides on the foliage. In order for the pesticides to stick to the vegetation, it needs to be dry. So it's pointless to apply the spray if it's wet out.
The spray needs time to dry.
Depending on the source, experts say it can take anywhere from an hour to 3 hours for the insecticides to dry. Once it dries, it can no longer be washed away by rain and rain is not a threat.
More rain = More Mosquitos
Mosquitos lay their eggs in standing water. When you have a lot of rain like we have had lately, that creates a lot of standing water. Mosquitos have a much easier time breeding and that makes the mosquito problem much worse.

Get rid of standing water on your property.
Old tires collect water and are one of the mosquito's favorite places to lay eggs. Try to get rid of any standing water you have on your property.
You'll need multiple sprays each year.
Most mosquito control companies say that the treatment lasts around 3-4 weeks. So if you want to keep the mosquitos down, you'll have to re-apply the insecticide every month.
