It's been a busy summer for our family for camping with our new travel trailer. It's our first year going across the region and trying out new campgrounds. We just got back from a week long stay at Camp Holiday located on Turtle Lake in Deerwood, Minnesota. It's located about a half hour east of Brainerd, Minnesota. We were looking for a campground resort that had hook ups and wasn't far from the Brainerd amenities. We ended up selecting Camp Holiday for that reason.

We arrived the week following the 4th of July, and it was a pretty full campground. That's really been the case just about anywhere we've gone this year. It was full but not too crowded, as the sites are spaced out pretty nice. They also do offer rental cabins and vacation homes on site as well. Those seemed to be busy also.

As soon as they registered they suggested which direction to drive the loop to back in for our specific site. That was helpful as it would have been tough if we hadn't gone the way they suggested. The site was pretty level, which is always nice as well.

There's a pretty nice playground smack dab in the middle of the campground. The kids had a great time and spent most of the day there playing. Next to the playground is a sandy volleyball area. They also have a basketball court, horse shoe pit, and even offer playground equipment from the office.

There's a swimming beach that is nice and sandy and even has a slide and floating platform. It was a bummer for us though, as we showed up on the coldest week in July with temperatures barely reaching 70. Still, it looked like it would be perfect for a hot day.

The office has a pretty good supply of things you'll need. They sell bait & tackle for fishing, ice, firewood, ice cream, and some small groceries. It's pretty convenient and was open fairly late into the evening.

The only campsite that we could reserve only had electric and water. That worked fine, no issues. But, with it being a week long stay we saved our camper toilet for just night time use so we didn't fill up our black water tank. That means we ended up using the campground vault toilet or shower house bathrooms.

Vault toilets are never my first choice because of flies and usually they smell. These weren't terrible, but definitely would pick the shower house flushable toilets.

The shower house is cleaned every day, and it was never messy when I went in. The showers weren't bad either.

The kids went fishing off the dock at the boat landing. They caught some perch and some bass. It was nothing out of this world, but they caught enough to keep them busy. I saw some other people with stringers full, so there are fish in the lake. Turtle Lake isn't a huge lake, but it's big enough to boat and tube on.

Overall it was a nice campground. We all had a good time and don't have any complaints about it. We enjoyed a campfire each night, and made some fun memories on our trip out to Camp Holiday Resort and Campground.
