Although Cam is fast collecting fans for her impact on country music, it may come as a surprise to some that she’s written a number of songs for non-country artists as well. One of these is Grammy Award-winning soul singer Sam Smith, who co-wrote his 2017 tune, “Palace,” with Cam and Tyler Johnson.

Cam showed off her ability to put her own special touch on the song, releasing a stripped-down video showcasing her fluttering/soaring vocal work on the melancholy love story. It’s a very different take from Smith’s soulful, British-tinged version, proving how flexible the song’s bones are.

The haunting lyrics are also flexible, illustrating a situation of mixed feelings that most of us who have loved and lost can relate to: ”And I know we’ll both move on/You’ll forgive what I did wrong/They will love the better you/But I still own the ghost of you.”

Cam, who has gained considerable attention for "Diane," her flipped-take on Dolly Parton's "Jolene," is taking her stories on the road and telling them exactly how she wants on the 2018 Listening Room Series Tour, which brings her to a handful of intimate venues across the country to perform her beloved tracks, alongside special fan requests, songs she's penned for other artists and new music off her upcoming album. The tour begins April 17 in Portland and continues through May 10, when it wraps in Virginia.
