Wolves have been protected recently by the federal government, but that may soon change again.   A Republican amendment to strip protection of wolves has been approved by a Senate committee, and now will go to the full senate.

Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming sponsored the amendment to delist the gray wolf in Wyoming, Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota. The Senate Environment Committee approved the bill and it now goes to the full Senate.

Barrasso says the amendment recognizes that the four states have workable plans to protect wolves without federal intervention. He says it's time to "recognize the science and focus our scarce taxpayer resources on truly imperiled species."

Personally, I think this is a great idea.  Our local government and DNR officials have a much better understanding of what is going on state to state.  Let's leave the federal government out of it, and give the power to the states where it belongs.

We've talked about this before on our show, and we've had the majority of people agree that wolves need to be managed locally.
