Big Black Bear Roams Duluth’s Lakeside Neighborhood, Scratches Butt On Trees
Holy Hannah! That's a big black bear! My friend Lisa noticed this big guy trying to get in her backyard in the Lakeside Neighborhood in Duluth.
Lisa says this isn't the first time they've seen a black bear in the area, but this one was "a beast," and she thought he was trying to let himself in through her yard's metal fence.
Black Bears in Minnesota are pretty active, searching for food to load up on calories before they hibernate in the coming months. You're more likely to see a black bear in town this time of year.
He was probably looking for a quick, easy meal. Maybe he smelled pizza from nearby Sammy's in Lakeside. I know that would be my downfall.
The bear made his way around their house, and then Lisa got a short video of the Black Bear using their front tree in the yard as a scratching post for his butt.
That's pretty funny.
The bear continued to walk down the street and hopefully found his way back into the woods.
Can you imagine encountering this bear on the nearby Lakewalk?
Just last week, the Minnesota DNR shared that not all of our black bears in Minnesota are actually black. Some of them can actually be brown, or cinnamon color. Fortunately, this guy was actually a black bear so nobody panicked that it was a Grizzly, which we don't have here in Minnesota.
Keep an eye out for bears in the next few weeks. They're out, and they're looking for a free meal!
