Far West Fest begins on Friday, but in preparation of the event they will have a significant amount of street detours and closures you should be aware of starting today.  To make your travel stress-free the Duluth Police Department has laid out their plan.

This is a community celebration that will start with a kick off party tonight at the Alpine Bar & Lounge. There will be product sampling, meat raffle and live stand up comedy with the fun starting at 6p.  The fun continues on Friday June 24th, and continue through Sunday June 26th. Here's the breakdown of detours and closures during the festivities.

Dixon Street from Commonwealth to 99th Avenue West will be the closed for setup starting tomorrow June 23rd.  Then on early Saturday morning Commonwealth Avenue will close and won't re-open until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

During the event traffic will be detoured to 99th and 101st Avenue west. 99th Avenue west will be signed as ONE WAY NORTHBOUND, and 101st Avenue West will be signed as ONE WAY SOUTHBOUND. Southbound traffic on Commonwealth will be directed west on Reis Street, south on 101st Avenue West to Gary Street, then east on Gary Street back to Commonwealth Avenue.  Northbound traffic on Commonwealth Avenue will be directed east on Gary Street , north on 99th Avenue West to Reis Street, then  west on Reis Street back to Commonwealth Avenue.
DTA buses will follow the detoured routes.  You'll see no parking signs posted and drivers are asked to use caution when traveling in and around the event area.
