It's been a mild end of 2024 for what is supposed to be a Minnesota winter. The above-freezing temperatures have melted most of the snow. We've had rain, fog, and pretty dismal winter conditions since Christmas in Minnesota, but that's going to change in the first week of 2025.

A cooling trend begins on New Year's Eve and will continue for the next week or more. The National Weather Service in Duluth shared their 4-day forecast showing temperatures will be in the single digits by Thursday night.

Temperatures in the Twin Cities metro will be down to the teens by the end of the week.

Reed Timmer, Extreme Meteorologist, shared that he believes an Artic Blast will happen next week with the Great Lakes Region seeing -30F temperatures.

We've been 15-20 degrees above average with daytime highs in the last week. The average high temperature is around 20 degrees for the end of December. We've seen highs closer to 40 degrees.

Mother Nature has a knack for correcting herself, and we should be seeing a cold winter snap do just that in the coming weeks.
