A home invasion is a terrifying experience and the ultimate invasion of your privacy. Unfortunately, they've become too common lately in the Duluth area.

Earlier this month, Duluth Police responded to the 200 block of West Kent Road for a burglary report. The individual, described as being a white male, entered the residence and made threats to the occupants inside.

A resident in this West Kent Road incident was transported by Mayo Ambulance to a local hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Then, on the very next day, Duluth Police responded to a report of another burglary, this one occurring in the area of 1500 Vermilion Road. Again, an individual, described as being a white male, entered this residence and threatened the occupants inside.

The two residents in the Vermilion Road incident were also transported by Mayo Ambulance to a local hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The man responsible for these violent home invasions was arrested. Jeffery Montana/Undahl was arrested and lodged at the St. Louis County Jail for pending charges of multiple counts of 1st Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Assault, Threats of Violence, and Felony Kidnapping.

Unfortunately, yet another home invasion happened in the Duluth area less than two weeks later.

Home Invasion Reported In Hermantown

On Sunday, November 16, an anonymous post was placed on the Hermantown, MN Neighbors Facebook page regarding a scary incident that had taken place. If you're wondering why the post was made anomalously, the writer says the decision to do so was made because it's a public page, and they were still recovering from the incident, which left the family feeling extremely violated.

"Just a friendly reminder to keep your doors locked even when you’re home in the middle of the day", is how the post begins.

The writer then goes on to describe what happened. On Saturday, November 16, at approximately 2 pm, a man entered a home off Lavaque Road, near Maple Grove Road, and claimed the home was now his.

The husband in the home stayed calm and kept the situation under control and when the man went to use the kitchen sink, the couple took the opportunity to escape their two small kids and call the police.

The man was arrested and brought in for a mental health evaluation. He received a citation for trespassing. The man is reportedly homeless and had made his way to Hermantown from the eastern part of Duluth.

The man was in the home for about 5 minutes. He left a backpack, scattered various items throughout the house, helped himself to a soda, sat at the owner's work desk and when police arrived, stashed his needle in the desk.

The writer goes on to thank the Hermantown Police Department for arriving quickly and their amazing neighbors who helped let the family into their home.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt in this incident, but it serves as yet another reminder that being safe in your own home is not guaranteed, even in the middle of the day so keeping doors locked is important.
