Ironwood Michigan has been experiencing a rush of cashflow from Michigan's recreational marijuana legalization. Just a few years ago there was one small house that was converted into a dispensary.

A while later, another dispensary opened down the street. The businesses have grown and expanded, and there's even room in the market for another dispensary that has just opened its doors.

What makes Ironwood such a prime spot?

Ironwood, Michigan is located right on the Wisconsin border. It's the closest dispensary to Wisconsin and Minnesota. While Minnesota has legalized recreational marijuana, dispensaries won't be open for maybe another year as they figure out the retail aspect. Wisconsin will probably never be legalized, and people from both states are making the trip to Ironwood.

Don't believe me? Check out the license plates in the parking lot if you go. You'll see mostly Wisconsin and Minnesota plates, mixed in with a few Pure Michigan license plates.

The demand is so great that most of the time there is a wait. On weekends, you could be waiting an hour or more just to get to the counter. The dispensaries suggest you do an online order for pickup, which does take on average a few hours to fill.

It's still illegal to have marijuana in your possession in Wisconsin.

Cannabis is illegal in bordering Wisconsin. That means if you travel through the state, you are breaking the law, but thousands of people do anyway. It's estimated that Wisconsin residents account for millions of dollars of Michigan's marijuana tax revenue.
