Exciting news is happening for soccer fans as a new Women's Soccer Franchise is coming to Minnesota in May of 2022.  The USL W League is a pre-professional women's soccer league which will have 30 teams total including the new Minnesota Team.

According to a press release the USL W said: " The league will use women’s soccer as a force for societal good by creating a national platform to increase opportunity, gender equity, and career development."

What makes the Minnesota team unique is that the team will be community owned, similar to the Green Bay Packers. An ownership drive is expected to take place later this year so fans and supporters can have ownership in major club decisions. The owners will decide the team name and branding as well.

Betsy Haugh, director of Women's Soccer said in a Press release reported by Bring Me The News saying:

What Minnesota is creating as the first community-owned women’s soccer team in the country, and in being our only independent club in the league, is incredibly exciting and we are thrilled to partner with them.

The Minnesota team will be having a launch party for the public this Sunday June 13 at 3p at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in Falcon Heights. The event will feature live music, food and of course soccer exhibitions. What an exciting time for women's soccer and a league like this could bring so many opportunities for female players trying to get to that next level professionally. And as a fan to be able to literally take ownership of the team is a rare opportunity.
