It was 20 years ago yesterday that Phil Hartman was murdered by his wife in one of the most tragic and shocking crimes of the 90's. Some of the best memories many of us have of Phil was his tenure on Saturday Night Live. If you haven't seen his audition tape, it shows how talented and refined he was even before he got the gig that would make him famous.

Hartman spent 8 years on the show, he also had recurring roles on the Simpsons, and starred in News Radio.  There were rumors of unhappiness in his marriage, and his wife had been to rehab several times in the last few months. She shot him in his sleep on May 28th, 1998. Several hours later, she took her own life. The tragedy shook the entertainment world, and left a hole in comedy that would never be filled.

Rest in peace, Phil.
