If a fire hose is on a public road, private driveway, or even your parking area, you cannot drive over it. It doesn't matter if it's on your property, it is illegal to drive over a hose without the fire official in command's permission.

Minnesota Statute

169.41 CROSSING FIRE HOSE.
No streetcar or vehicle shall be driven over any unprotected hose of a fire department when laid down on any street, private driveway, or streetcar track, to be used at any fire or alarm of fire, without the consent of the fire department official in command.

Wisconsin Statute

346.91  Crossing fire hose. No person without the consent of the fire department official in command may drive a vehicle over any unprotected hose of a fire department when such hose is laid down on any street or private driveway to be used at any training exercise, scene of an emergency, or alarm of emergency.

How much can you be fined for driving over a fire hose?

In Wisconsin, if it's your first offense, the law dictates the driver will forfeit not less than $20 and not more than $40. If a second offense happens within the same year, the fine will be $50-$100.

In Minnesota, it's considered a petty misdemeanor and a judge can fine you not more than $300.
