September Brings Rainy Weather Record For Duluth

September started off with a bang and seemingly ended with a whole lot of rain, at least for the Duluth, Minnesota area. With September ending in just a few days, it looks like mother nature wanted one last record in there for good measure.

Over Labor Day weekend, the Duluth area broke a few different records, including one from in the 1800s. On the third of the month, we reached a new high for that day in history and had the warmest September day since they started keeping record of that sort of thing back in 1974.

Now, we hit another weather record but one of a different sort. Duluth had one of its rainiest months ever, thanks to a very wet string of days last weekend. It did not let up throughout the entire weekend, leading to flooding by Target and the Miller Hill Mall.

For this reason, according to WDIO Meteorologist Brandon Weatherz, September of 2023 has now gone down as one of the rainiest. This is not just for the month of September but all months since they started keeping records. Yup, it was that rainy.

Other rainy months include June, July and August. Some of these records even go back to the 1800s! Now that October is around the corner, we can start expecting more fall-like conditions and the dreaded word nobody wants me to say right now.

The good news is, we probably won't have to worry about that dreaded word until later this year. The Old Farmer's Almanac says that snow will probably hold off until at least November. This is one time I am really hoping their forecast is right. Ha!
