New Ice Cream Shop Set For Lincoln Park Business District

Lincoln Park's business district is about to satisfy a lot more appetites.

According to the Duluth News Tribune, a new ice cream shop is set for one of the area's empty storefronts. Love Creamery will soon occupy a shop at 1908 West Superior Street.

The ice cream shop will feature unique flavors with a new take on the usual parlor experience. The shop itself isn't new though. Launched in 2015, the delicious treats can be found at local events, like the Superior Farmers Market, via an ice cream cart and sales to nearby cafes. The ice cream is hand-crafted using only local ingredients.

I tracked down Nicole Wilde, the woman behind it all, to get a few more details on what we can expect when the store opens later this year.

Can you tell me a little background on how you got started?
"My first job was as a carhop at a 50s-like custard stand in Milwaukee, and I loved how happy people were when they stopped in for a cone. Later in life, I started to farm organically and also became excited about local foods. I am an environmentalist, so when thinking about a business to start I took my passions and history to start Love Creamery."

What can customers expect from your ice cream parlor?
"Interesting, unique and changing offering of flavors of ice cream and sorbet, along with with other ice cream related menu options in a warm and friendly multi-generational community gathering place. We strive to be zero waste, so expect no plastic or trash, mostly compostable or reusable. Our flavors are often seasonal and many will incorporate ingredients grown or made in the greater Twin Ports area."

This is part of a revitalization of sorts for the area. Why are you excited to be a part of it?
"As a Midwesterner, some of my favorite road trips growing up were through Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota old county highways that ran through rural communities via Main Streets. So when it came time to locate my business I looked and wanted to locate on a street with a Main Street feel. Also, I love that Lincoln Park is staying local in its development with the Craft District focus. It just makes sense for my company to locate among other businesses focused on handcrafted items."

When pressed for more details about the upcoming shop, Wilde played coy. She says she wants everything to be a surprise and is still working out some details.

She did say the shop will open this summer "for sure" so we will have to wait until then to see what she has up her sleeve. One thing is for sure - we can't wait.
