Mayor Ness isnt' asking us do to something he wouldn't do himself.  He will be out cleaning with Girl Scout Brownie Troop 4153 this Wednesday, June 12th at Memorial Park at 1pm. It's an opportunity to remind the community that we can all pitch in to keep our parks and trails clean.

“Whether it’s your favorite trail or the sidewalk in front of your house, when you pick up that piece of garbage you are saying that you take pride in our community,” says Mayor Ness.

To date, community groups from around the City have provided over 750 volunteers and over 900 hours of volunteerism in our parks for Clean and Green 2013.  Just think, we are closing in on 1,000 hours of Clean and Green volunteerism in our parks and green space, but, the City of Duluth wants the public to know that there is still more to do.

“Seeing folks come together to clean up and beautify our city in the spring really exemplifies Duluthians’ stewardship for our natural surroundings ,” says Mayor Don Ness. “It’s so important that we all take ownership of the parks, trails, and neighborhoods that we love and maintain the spectacular natural beauty Duluth is known for.”

Other participating groups include: - Duluth East Baseball, Woodland Hills, Lake Superior Zoo, Safe & Walkable Hillside Coalition, Friends of the Lakewalk, area Girl Scout troops, UMD, Lake Superior College, Trillium Services, St. Michael’s Lakeside School, Duluth Public Library, Newman Catholic Campus Ministry – UMD, Junior League of Duluth, Stowe Elementary, Rockhill Community Church, the Duluth YMCA, Harbor Highlands Community Center, and the 4H Ambassadors.

Community groups, individuals, families and others are invited to register a Clean and Green event.  The City will provide bags, gloves, safety guidelines, first aid kits, vests and other tools and equipment to registered groups. Together we can keep the Zenith City a beacon of health, cleanliness, and green living for our state and our country.
