You've probably read by now that Minnesota may be on the receiving end of a monster snowstorm at some point this winter. Even if you haven't read about that just yet, you are probably assuming as much.

While winter is always long and cold in the Northland, we have been pretty lucky so far this time around. At the time of writing, we are experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures in the Duluth area, and are expected to continue seeing them into the end of the week.

Eventually, something is going to give and that is when I turn to the Old Farmer's Almanac to give us a little glimpse of what we can expect. Sometimes they totally miss the mark and other times, their forecasts are on point.

Old Farmer's Almanac December 2023 Forecast

Whatever you believe, here's what they are predicting for the month of December:

  • A sunny start to the month, turning cold a few days in before mild conditions move in
  • Snow and colder temperatures between December 11th and the 22nd
  • A white Christmas is in store with snow for the eastern parts of the region, with sunshine and colder temperatures in the west.
  • From the 26th through the end of the month, expect sunshine and bitter cold. How fun!

Our temperatures will be brutal, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac, with an average temperature of just fifteen degrees. This is about four degrees below average. Yikes!
