A lot of people in Minnesota and Wisconsin with travel plans at the end of the first weekend of 2026 are now faced with winter weather, causing slippery road conditions.

While many are accustomed to driving in snow, things will be even trickier in parts of the region as a mix of freezing rain and sleet is also expected to develop. That prompted the National Weather Service to issue 12 Winter Weather Advisories on Sunday morning.

Remember, updated road conditions can be found by calling 511. They are also available through 511mn.org in Minnesota, and at  511wi.gov in Wisconsin.
