I have had a lot of people contact me about helping people that have been hit by Hurricane Harvey. I did some research on the internet and there are a few ways and some organizations that are stepping in to help and need some help. Donating money and blood seem to be the top two. Here's where you can help.

The two big organizations are stepping in first. The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. There are also some smaller organizations that are doing their part, like

According to an article by Inside Edition, FEMA is referring Americans to donate to NVOAD, which have posted information on their site for those looking to volunteer or make a donation. The National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD). Also, many people are being told to leave their pets behind, many are not. The Austin Pets Alive organization is stepping in for displaced animals who need shelter and care, and providing food.

As always, when something like this happens, hospitals need blood. Donate blood and it will go to The South Texas Blood Center. They are in short supply for injured people.

Also, many people have lost their homes and are staying in shelters. I have not found a release on giving money to some of the makeshift shelters that have been set up but The Houston Coalition for the Homeless has provided a list of shelters for those in need during the devastation and are also seeking donations to help with food, clothing, and other things they are providing for people.
