The Twin Ports Interchange project will cause another temporary, short-term closure the week of May 24. The City of Duluth is reporting that drivers can expect to encounter orange cones and closures along West Superior Street in Lincoln Park along portions of that street between May 24 and May 27. At certain points a signed detour will be made available.

According to details released by the City of Duluth - here are the specifics:

"Two-way traffic will remain between West Michigan Street and 18th Avenue West, from 18th Avenue West to 22nd Avenue West two blocks of West Superior Street will be closed at a time until the work is complete. Drivers will be detoured up West 1st Street using the open avenues while work is performed between 18th and 20th Avenue West. When work is performed between 20th and 22nd Avenue West traffic will be detoured up 19th Avenue West to West 3rd Street and then down 24th Avenue West."

The closure is being mandated by advance construction tied to the Twin Ports Interchange project.  A contractor will be installing pavement markings for the Cross City Trail relocation which will provide a safe alternative route for bicyclists while the existing trail is closed due to the Twin Ports Interchange project.

While the work will take a few days, the city does anticipate having it completed on time.  Their estimated timeline for re-opening the street is by 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 27.

While the street is closed, Duluth Transit (DTA) buses will continue to provide service throughout the area.  Riders should, though expect delays.  Additionally, some stops will be closed and detours will occur during the planned construction.
