Vikings Sign Adrian Peterson To New Contract Extension
Great news for Vikings fans! The next step is securing the team to remain in Minnesota for years to come.
The Minnesota Vikings announced Saturday they have agreed to a long-term contract extension with running back Adrian Peterson.
Peterson's deal is worth up to $100 million over eight years, including $36 million guaranteed, a source with knowledge of the situation told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.
The deal, the sources said, includes $36 million guaranteed and will be worth $40 million over the first three years. $31 Million guaranteed over three years had been the record for deals given to a running back.
Peterson, 26, was entering the final year of his original rookie contract. The Vikings' first-round draft pick in 2007, Peterson has been a Pro Bowler each of his four seasons, earned 2007 Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and has earned All-Pro honors in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
The Vikings tweeted a message from Peterson to Vikings fans moments after announcing the new deal.
"Today is an incredible day. Minnesota's where I want to be and I'm excited to continue playing for you," Peterson said.
