Duluth's aging infrastructure is desperately in need of repair.  Digging will begin on Monday, August 22, on Superior Street in downtown to access the sewer line.  This is prep work being done for additional construction on Superior Street.

The City of Duluth says Superior Street will not be closed to traffic during this time.  Once the cleaning process is done the next phase of the project will interrupt sanitary sewer service in early September.  If you are a large business in the construction area you may experience sewer service interruption for up to 24 hours and crews will need to dig in front of your business to access the sewer line.  If you're a smaller business and don't use a lot of water  chances are you won't lose service at all.  Don't worry though, you won't be taken by surprise, you would be notified well in advance if your service will be affected in any way.  The planned service interruption will only impact the properties on the upper side of Superior Street, not the lower side.
Hang in there, they determined the time-frame for the construction should be approximately six weeks.  If you have questions or concerns you can call Eric Shaffer, the City’s Chief Engineer of Utilities at (218) 730-5072.
