This might be one of your last chances to get out and race before winter hits! The Ursa Minor 5K takes place later this month and it is all for a good cause! It is being dubbed a DiffeRUNce 5K, with all of the proceeds benefiting the Duluth, Minnesota branch of the YMCA.

Because this race falls in October, it is of course Halloween themed! Runners are encouraged to dress up, bring the entire family and hit the streets of Duluth. This is a family-friendly event and strollers are more than welcome. Dogs are also welcome.

The run will kick off at Ursa Minor Brewing, located at 2415 West Superior Street. It kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 28th. As with any fun Halloween activity, there will also be a costume contest with prizes courtesy of Ursa Minor.

As mentioned, this race will benefit YMCA Community Services, which is a branch of the Duluth area location. The nonprofit provides 'great access to health and wellness opportunities' in the area, like afterschool and food access programs.

You can register online right now, with a few different options if you want to take part or contribute:

  • Give a donation of your choosing, opting for the 'Free-Willl Donation Registration' option
  • Register a child between five and twelve for a suggested donation of $15 bucks
  • Register yourself or a child thirteen and up for a suggested donation of $35 bucks

The donations are suggested amounts but if you can't afford them, you can pick an amount that fits your budget and take part. You can also register in person at the downtown Duluth YMCA, located at 302 West 1st Street.

There is also the option to register at the Essentia Wellness Center, located at 4289 Ugstad Road. You can register until Friday, October 27th at 4 p.m. If you miss the window, you can register on race day at Ursa Minor starting at 9 a.m.
