It all starts with a phone call stating you have not paid your ticket for a red light camera fine.

According to KNS Financial, here's how the scammer gets your identity. They will tell you they are an officer, they might give you a badge number or case number and will repeat some information back to you they could get online, then will have you fill in the blanks for the rest of the information. They will then ask you for credit card information so that you can avoid a warrant for your arrest.

Alarm bells should start ringing as they ask you more questions, though, the fact is the police will have your billing address, date of birth and Social Security number. They have your license plate in the photo from the red light camera and should have all that info on file.

Here's how you stop the call, tell them there's something that needs your attention right now and you will call them right back, could you have their direct number.
