The Kennel Cough Virus Has Been Spreading Through The Northland
Kennel cough cases are on the rise in the Northland and local animal clinics and hospitals are taking notice. Dr. Kelly Powell from Dougherty Veterinary Clinic told CBS3 “I would say in the past three or four weeks, we’re probably getting about ten calls a week.”
This virus is an airborne disease but can also be transmitted through a dogs saliva .Dr. Powell describes the symptoms as “A really harsh, honking, really distinct cough.” If your dog spends a lot of time around other dogs pay close attention to them. Also if your dog stays at a kennel with other dogs or even if they are brought to a groomer they could catch kennel cough.
Their is a vaccine available to prevent your dog from getting kennel cough, but in the event your dog does become sick from it they can be treated with medications and antibiotics.
