The Northland is about to be under one and it will likely be the first of many - but what does it mean?

The department has received several reports of this happening around the area. Here's what you need to know.

I guess it's that time of year.  I tell you of the IRS scams in February and May, now that we're on the cusp of summer I need to share info about blacktop scams.  Honestly, you really can never let your guard down, you never know where the next scam will hit you!

I'm sure you can come up with lots of things to add to my list. Or maybe crazy things your mom told you to be careful of that were myths, like waiting 30 minutes after you eat to go swimming.

My friend Sandy in FL told me about these Quiet Moments calming treats and swore they worked.  I had looked at the local department stores we frequent and couldn't find it.  I figured I'd have to go to a local pet specialty store, but before we did we were camping and ran across a pet store that had them.  My experience is a review that will lend as a warning.

Recently I was rummage sale(ing) in Anoka and bought the huge dish pictured above. My plan was to use it to serve my Filipino noodle dish called Pancit, it would have been perfect. WOULD have been in the key word. It wasn’t until I got home and flipped it over to put it in the dishwasher that I was horrified to find out I shouldn’t, I couldn’t use it for what I intended.

Whether you're walking the dog, checking out the waves or even training for Grandma’s  Marathon (which isn't easy with the snow and ice), use extreme caution around the Aerial Lift Bridge. It never occurs to me that there could be potential danger lurking above me, other than from the pigeons and seagulls.

Our nerf options were pretty slim when I was a child, a round ball or a football.  That's it, no gun or nerf pellets.  These "toys" are causing quite a stir in the City of Duluth with something called "Nerf Wars" and local law enforcement is making some important suggestions that participants need to know before playing.

I have been trying to keep up on all the scams in the Northland (can't believe how many there are) and I'm grateful when one I wasn't aware of is brought to my attention.  THIS time, I have a warning from the Superior Douglas County Area Chamber of Commerce.  Read and be aware!

I can't believe how many ice fishing houses I've seen out on Lake Superior lately.  Especially right out from 21st Avenue East, it's like a little fishing village.  With Spring just two weeks away, the U.S. Coast Guard warns the ice anglers.
