The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced that catch-and-release only regulations will again be in effect beginning with the May 12 fishing opener.
Good news for anglers waiting for the return of catch-and-release walleye fishing and use of live bait on Mille Lacs Lake. Beginning Friday, August 11, walleye fishing will once again be allowed. This season will continue through Monday, September 4.
A new year often means new rules and regulations and this is true in 2017 for Lake Vermilion anglers, although this change will make things less restrictive.
The MN DNR has released a statement that anglers won't be able to keep any walleyes caught this year on Mille Lacs. Also, anglers can only use artificial bait unless they are fishing from a commercial launch.
