The holiday season is in full swing and this Wednesday, December 13, there's free family fun with Santa and Rudolph and friends at the Essentia Duluth Heritage Center in Duluth.
This winter has really been a bummer for outdoors people. There really hasn't been a good amount of snow that's stuck around, and we've ended up with a bunch of ice on our trails. Well that didn't stop this group of folks. They took ice skates to the trails of Lester Park for some extreme winter fun.
The City Of Duluth Parks and Recreation Department announced this week that they have closed the Bayfront Park Ice Rink for the remainder of the winter season, although free indoor skating events remain an option.
Recently the skating rink at Bayfront Festival Park closed for a few days due to the subzero weather conditions. Hopefully the thermometer will cooperate and the rink can remain open. Keep in mind the rink would close if wind chills reach -20 degrees Fahrenheit or if warm weather creates melted puddles on the ice.
The City of Duluth does a great job at providing free skating parties for the community and on Wednesday, December 14, there will be two very special guests.
Everyone regardless of age is invited to enjoy making memories with fun activities thanks to the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation department. The Gobbler Glide at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center will have free skating, making holiday cards for military and even frozen turkey bowling!
You're invited to spend some time skating at the Essentia Health Duluth Heritage Sports Center, 120 South 30th Avenue West with Boo Bash and this week when the kids are off from school. The City of Duluth has you covered with free open skating.
It's been such a weird weather winter. Not a lot of snow to the dismay of the snowmobile fans and any skier in the Northland. For skaters it's been hit and miss too. The warmer temps caused the Bayfront Family Center to close the ice rink. There's good news and bad news, the good news, it's re-opened! The bad news, not for long.
