We’re a little over a week away from the biggest movie of the summer, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. In less than ten years, Marvel has built a powerful brand in Hollywood thanks to their great casting, sharp writing, and an ability to distill decades of comic books down to fun, accessible adventures. A big part of that translation process is the look of their movies, and particularly the look of their characters. And that’s all about costumes, which is a particular specialty of Marvel’s. Between Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the rest, they’ve got some sharp-dressed heroes.
The ‘Transformers’ are back for two and a half hours worth of action in ‘Dark of the Moon,’ the third movie in Michael Bay’s mega-blockbuster franchise is in our 3 local Marcus Theatres this weekend.
Reviews for the movie have been a bit on the negative side; but with it already pulling in $13.5 million on Tuesday, it’s looking to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, movie of the year.
As expected, Pixar’s ‘Cars 2′ easily took first place at the weekend box office, netting a healthy $68 million. That’s about $8 million higher than the original ‘Cars,’ which opened to $60.1 million in 2006.
Another sequel cruises into Twin Ports Marcus Theatres this weekend by way of Pixar’s ‘Cars 2,’ with Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) back for another fast-paced adventure – this time, at the first-ever World Grand Prix.
Reviews haven’t been too kind for the movie, but given Pixar’s recent successes, ‘Cars 2′ should have no problem taking the number-one spot at the box office.
Did you see it? What did you think? The low totals didn't meet hopes of the studio for the first week. While not being panned across the board, the reviews have not been great overall which may very well hinder it's ability to have staying power in theaters.
