We have owned our house for over 12 years and for all those years this area has looked just like this.  We believe at one point there use to be a rock garden there, see the big rock?  Now it just gets mowed around and looks horrible, is the attempt at making it a rock garden worth it?  Do people even have rock gardens anymore?

The news lately is full of anger and divisive attitudes.  Rather than wallow in that frame of mind, Engwall Florist is hitting downtown Duluth today to have a positive impact on 800 people, with the goal of letting those 800 people "Petal It Forward".

Memorial Day Weekend is coming up the end of this week, are you ready?  Besides getting ready for your picnics, camping and opening up the cabin, you also need to remember why the day exists.  Every year I forget to do my family duty until the last minute.  This year, you're helping me remember.  Since I'm blogging about it, I'm also getting it done earlier than ever before.

My wife's favorite flower is Stargazer Lilies.  This year as a gift she received some lilies for her birthday.   We displayed them on the kitchen table.  They sat there for a few days, until a crisis appeared out of nowhere yesterday morning.

If you've been reluctant to cover your rose bushes with the colder weather, don't worry about it.  You can still have beautiful roses in your home thanks to the 28th year of the Rose Sale with Duluth's Rotary Club.  You'll be putting a smile on someone's face (or your own) for remembering them and being part of the big picture with community help.

With the excessive heat we've had in the Northland the flowers in my yard have started to get crispy.  I was out Sunday evening picking off the ones that I knew couldn't be revived.  This critter flew up next to me and started drinking nectar from the flowers and it was NOT afraid of me.  Ken tells me his dad just saw one of these for the first time in his yard last week.  Are we being infested? 

Pollen counts in the Twin Ports reached 7.5 / 10 on the scale on Sunday and Monday this week.  This is classified as medium-high pollen amounts.  At work today, many people were having problems with their allergies and everyone shared stories about seeing pollen floating around in the air over the weekend.
