I guess the carnival wasn't all fun and games.

Orchards are getting ready for the return of the Bayfield Apple Festival in October.

There's a free fall carnival happening in Lincoln park on Friday October 11th. The carnival is put together by the Lincoln Park Boys & Girls Club of the Northland.

The Mighty Thomas Carnival has been coming to the DECC parking lot for as long as I can remember.  But, one year in particular stands out for a couple of reasons, one it was just us kids because one of us had just gotten our license (early 80's) and two, it was the first time I rode a carnival ride called "The Caterpillar" (I think that's what it was).

Well I guess I got off easy with a mild sprained ankle.  The Eau Claire Leader Telegram is reporting that several people were injured over the weekend at the free fall experience attraction at Country Fest over the weekend.  The most severe was a broken neck and back, also two people broke their ankles doing the jump.

Is there a way to possibly fail a free fall jump?  Apparently yes.  The design of this is to jump roughly from 30 feet up and land on your butt on this giant airbag. Yep I screwed that part up and twisted my ankle.

I saw this and had to share.  The marine asks for a countdown for when the ride is going to take off.   Let's just say he didn't get what he expected!
