If you've ever wanted to try out an electric bicycle, a new e-bike rental shop called Canal E-Rides will be opening in Canal Park in Duluth later this month.
I noticed this last week when I was driving through Catlin Avenue in the UWS Campus. A row of bikes was set up with 'City of Superior' written across the front basket. At first I assumed it was something for the college kids, but was surprised to learn today that there are 5 different locations around town that have these bikes...
It's National Bike to Work Day this Friday and the DTA is getting involved. Now I understand the premise is to actually "bike to work", but with the hills in Duluth no one is going to jump on ya if you take the DTA back home, that hill after a long days work could be brutal.
When I got my first job at the Wrenshall School pool I rode my bike to work on a SUPER hilly, loose graveled Alcohol Road (yes, that is the actual name of the road). Bikes are being accepted today, Friday, April 22 until 7p or tomorrow, Saturday, April 23 from 8a-9:45a for the 10th Annual Continental Ski & Bike "Bike Swap". This yearly event benefits the Head of the Lakes United Way. Plus, the first 100 kids at the event receive a free bike helmet thanks to St. Luke's Hospital and Joe Golcz at State Farm Insurance!

A growing number of cities across the country are using this mode of transportation as a solution to many challenges.
