Sometimes I hear what people say I wonder why they do that...about law enforcement and it's because people don't know what it is like to be one. The Superior Police hope to change that and are offering a citizen police academy, a great way to learn Police policy and tactics.

According to the National Citizens Police Academy Association website, "The objective of the Citizen Police Academy is not to train an individual to be a “Reserve Police Officer” but to produce informed citizens.

The Superior Police Department’s citizen police academy has opened registration for the  thirteenth annual Superior Police Department’s citizen police academy which will offer 9 sessions. Starting Wednesday, September 17, and spans eight weeks after that. Police officers and detectives will talk to people about many different law enforcement topics and gain some hands on lessons in police work.

Each session runs from 6 pm to 10 pm on Wednesdays, with one course also taking place on a Saturday morning during the program. Candidates must live and work in Superior, be at least 21 years of age and complete an application. Also, applicants must pass a background check and have no prior felony convictions or violations. The class is free and is limited to 25 people, with an application deadline of September 5.

Applications for the citizen’s police academy are available online via the City of Superior’s click here, or in person at the Superior Police Department reception desk. Questions or requests for an application to be mailed can be handled by calling (715) 395-7450.
