Superior Sushi Restaurant Suffers Devastating Early Morning Fire
What a sad way to start the week! The Superior Fire Department responded to calls of a structure fire at 3333 Tower Avenue in Superior early Monday morning. When crews arrived, there was an active fire. It took only 2 minutes for the Superior Fire Department to respond. The fire department is located directly across the street from Tower Avenue.
A press release asks that people avoid traveling on Tower Avenue in that section unless it's absolutely necessary as crews were still on the scene working on the fire on Monday morning.
The business is Wasabi Japanese Cuisine. They were known for their all you can eat Sushi and Japanese dishes. It was a favorite place of many local foodies. It's a big loss for the community, and the only sushi restaurant in Superior.
The building was also formerly O'Neil's Pub and drive thru liquor before the business closed. In 2017, Wasabi purchased the building and constructed Superior's first Sushi restaurant.
Wasabi was a big hit with their lunch specials and all you can eat menu options. Many people took to social media, saddened by the news.
Temperatures were well below zero in the Northland with wind-chills as low as -40 degrees, making it dangerous and difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze.
Smoke and steam were very thick in the area, and authorities caution that this will remain for much of the day as crews are still working at the scene.
The Superior Police Department and Mayo Ambulance assisted in the call. As of the writing of this article, there have been no comments about any injuries or casualties.
Dan Hanger, anchor of Fox 21 News shared the news on social media early Monday Morning.
