The Superior School District sent an email to students' families this week encouraging good sportsmanship from fans. "Welcome to the Game" is an initiative that's about the postivie spirit of sporsmanship and making sure the athletic events are fun and welcoming for everyone. That includes players, coaches, officials, and fans.

The school will also be rewarding supportive fans with fund incentives, like Spartan apparel, free concessions, and free admission to future games.

Welcome to the Game Initiative

The e-mail lays out core values for being a supportive fan. They have said they will reinforce these core values at all of their school events.

    • Spartan fans support & encourage players.
    • Spartan fans represent with class & grace.
    • Spartan fans promote fair play.
    • Spartan fans show positive sportsmanship for all--players, coaches, and officials.
    • Spartan fans prioritize player well-being.
    • Spartan fan behavior reflects our school.

The School District recognizes that the excitement in the games can sometimes lead to moments of poor sportsmanship in the stands. They want to bring the focus back to the students-athletes and honor the spirit of play.

Fans Violating Expectations Will Be Asked To Leave

Fans in attendance who show poor sportsmanship and violate the core values will be first issued a verbal warning. If the behavior persists, they will be asked to leave. "A considerate pattern of not following these expectations could lead to your exclusion from all competitions for the rest of the school year."
