Drivers who are out and about late on Wednesday, October 21 will need to know that the southbound lanes of I-35 near the Can-of-Worms will be completely closed for a few hours.  Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are working to get advance word out about the closure - which is tied to the lane closures reported earlier last week in that same area.

According to details released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, southbound I-35 will close to all traffic near 27th Avenue West just before midnight on Wednesday, October 21.  The closure is expected to last about 3 to 4 hours, as work crews install a concrete barrier along the southbound right edge of the interstate under the bridge.

While the closure is in place, all southbound traffic will be routed off the 27th Avenue West ramp and then back down n the on-ramp on the other side of the bridge.  Electronic messaging will be in place to direct drivers and the state patrol will be on hand to assist with traffic flow through the intersection at the top of the ramp.

This complete one-night closure and the corresponding single-lane closures in both the north and south-bound lanes of I-35 near the Can-of-Worms is tied to preparation details ahead of the Twin Ports Interchange project.  That major project is expected to get started in the spring of 2021.
