Something Sweet by Maddie Lu To Set Up Permanent Shop At Miller Hill Mall
After setting up a pop-up shop at the Miller Hill Mall for the 2020 holiday season, Something Sweet by Maddie Lu announced on Mother's Day that they will be setting up a permanent home in the mall.
The mother & daughter-operated company started in 2015, now running a storefront in Coon Rapids as well as a shop in the Mall of America. Maddie and her mom Laurie's business have occupied pop-up shops in the Twin Ports a few times, but they explain that the permanent storefront stems from personal ties to the area.
In the Facebook post announcing the news, it was explained why they are picking Duluth. Maddie shared that both of her parents are from the Twin Ports area, with one of them from Proctor and the other from Denfeld in Duluth. She explained that much of their family is still in the area, and she calls Duluth their second home.
The store will start out offering delicious treats for walk-in customers like macarons, cupcakes, cookie dough, and pre-made cakes for various occasions. The goal is to expand to offering custom orders from this location eventually as well.
According to the map on the Miller Hill Mall website, Something Sweet by Maddie Lu will open near the food court area, between Northwoods Outdoor and Famous Footwear, and right across the main corridor from Chilly Billy's Frozen Yogurt (highlighted in magenta on the map below).
While there is no exact opening date yet, Maddie shared that the wait won't be too long. Her post explained that they are hoping to be open "in the first few weeks of June". The announcement on the business's Facebook page created a lot of excitement, with the Miller Hill Mall's official Facebook page excitedly welcoming the sweet new shop, and lots of fans commenting with excitement on Maddie's post.
