‘SNL': Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone Make ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Love Scenes Really Weird
If you get Andrew Garfield to host 'SNL' on the same weekend that 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' opens, you need to put him in the costume for at least one sketch. More importantly, you need to bring in his co-star Emma Stone, with whom he has incredible chemistry. But most importantly, you need to make sure that their sketch together is impossibly silly and makes fun of their on-screen romantic relationship. Yep, they've gone and done it: they've made kissing Spider-Man weird.
The scene finds Garfield and Stone playing themselves playing Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, on set and getting ready for the big romantic scene in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.' But to the director's dismay, both actors soon reveal that they have no idea how to kiss and that their previous romantic scenes were accomplished with the help of stunt doubles. It starts strange, with both actors kissing like no human beings have kissed before, but it somehow manages to find a special, new level of strange when Coldplay's Chris Martin shows up to, uh, assist in the sequence.
"Haha, movie stars don't know how to kiss!" is a pretty one-note joke, but it's a joke that everyone manages to make funny just by keeping it as weird as possible, especially since Garfield and Stone aren't afraid to look like total idiots. But would the whole thing feel worth it without the final moments with Martin? We don't know, but as it stands, its's pretty darn funny.
