Maintenance work on a railroad track crossing will close a busy road in the Duluth area for five days.  Officials with St. Louis County is alerting the general public about the repair work scheduled for the crossing on Midway Road, just 9.2 miles south of U.S. Highway 2 in Adolph.

The closure is scheduled for June 27 through July 1.

According to the details released by St. Louis County, crews with the CN Railroad will conduct the maintenance work on the tracks.  That maintenance work will necessitate the complete closure of Midway Road at that crossing.

In advance of the closure on Midway Road in Adolph, St. Louis County Public Works will post signs for the detour route so that drivers can navigate around the maintenance work and the closed roadway.  That detour will take traffic onto the St. Louis River Road and U.S. Highway 2 instead of Midway Road.

For the time being, the CN Railroad doesn't anticipate the closure to last longer than the specified time. However, similar to any outdoor repair or maintenance project, the work is subject to being affected by a variety of factors - from weather conditions to unforeseen circumstances.  Drivers are urged to plan ahead, slow, down, be cautious, and follow the signs.

Summer is a busy time of the year in the Northland for road construction, repairs, and maintenance - and that also includes railroad track crossings.  Drivers are reminded to utilize caution within work zones, slow down, obey signage, avoid distractions, and always be alert.  Usually fines for offenses like speeding are higher within posted work zones.
