Northland middle school students are in for a treat this week as a couple of high profile athletes will pay them a visit to stress the importance of leading healthy, drug-free lifestyles.

Grandma's Marathon announced that Olympian Dick Beardsley and Minnesota runner Emma Lee will be the featured speakers for the Essentia Health Fit-n-Fun Middle School Assemblies.

Beardsley and Lee will give presentations to students at Superior Middle School at 2 p.m. on May 10 and Ordean East Middle School at 8:45 a.m. on May 11.

Dick Beardsley was the winner of Grandma’s Marathon in 1981 and 1982, and he held the course record with a time of 2:09:37 for 33 years.

Emma Lee grew up in St. Paul, where she attended Como Park Senior High School. Lee attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and was a varsity athlete in cross-country, Nordic skiing, and outdoor track.
