Multiple shots were reportedly fired and one person is confirmed dead after an officer involved shooting incident in Ashland, Wisconsin.

The Ashland Police Department posted this update May 22 on their Facebook page:

Earlier today there was an officer involved shooting in the 800 block of 4th Ave W, in the City of Ashland. The shooting is currently under investigation and it will be several hours until the crime scene is clear. Currently there is no danger to the citizens of Ashland with regards to this event.

DuluthNewsTribune.com is reporting that two homes in the 800 block of Fourth Avenue West had been surrounded by police for much of the afternoon after gunshots rang through the neighborhood at about 3:00 p.m.

At about 5:15 p.m., officers had advanced on a home at 812 Fourth Ave. W. behind an armored vehicle, then rushed the home, with assault rifles drawn, utilizing a ballistic shield for cover.

Officials have made no comments yet on what may have led to this incident, but it appears any potential threat to the general public is over.
