2nd Small Wisconsin City Now Investigating An Officer-Involved Death
Earlier this week, an officer-involved death was reported in Superior, Wisconsin, which has a population of close to 27,000.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ), a Superior Police Department officer located a wanted person in the city, along with two additional subjects. As the officer approached, one of the additional subjects attempted to flee.
The officer and this subject engaged in a physical altercation. During the altercation, the officer discharged their weapon, striking the subject, who would die on the scene. In addition, a firearm was also recovered from the scene.
The man who was fatally shot by the officer was later identified as 42-year-old David Donald Ducado Menton of Solon Springs, Wisconsin.

Now, less than 48 hours after that incident took place, another officer-involved death has occurred in a small Wisconsin city, and the Wisconsin DOJ has released official details on that incident.
Officer-Involved Death Reported in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin
Chippewa Falls, with a population of close to 15,000, is located about 141 miles south of Superior, on the banks of the Chippewa River. It serves as the county seat of Chippewa County and is part of the larger Eau Claire–Chippewa Falls metropolitan area.
On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Chippewa Falls Police Department posted on Facebook: 'Due to an ongoing incident, please avoid the area of West Park Avenue and Hwy 124.'
Later that day, the Wisconsin Department of Justice shared the following details on the incident, confirming that it was another officer-involved death:
The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved death that occurred in the City of Chippewa Falls on the morning of Thursday, April 9, 2026.
At 10:58 a.m. Thursday, three officers with the Chippewa Falls Police Department were dispatched to a hotel near the 1000 block of West Park Avenue in Chippewa Falls to respond to a report of wanted subjects being there.
After arriving outside the hotel, one of the responding officers made contact with three subjects in a vehicle. One of the subjects fled the vehicle. The same officer pursued this subject on foot, and, while fleeing, the subject brandished what law enforcement reported they believed to be a handgun.
The subject jumped a patio railing, and the officer, on the opposite side of the railing, discharged their weapon, striking the subject.

EMS was contacted, and life-saving measures were rendered on the subject, but the subject was pronounced deceased on scene. No members of law enforcement or other members of the public were injured during this incident.
The involved law enforcement officer was wearing a body-worn camera during the incident and will be placed on administrative leave, per the agency’s policy.
DCI is leading this investigation and is assisted by a DCI Crime Response Specialist, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement is fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation. DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident, and will turn over the investigative reports to the Chippewa County District Attorney’s Office when the investigation concludes.
