Your utility bill is one of those few bills that can change drastically from one month to another.  With living in the Northland, we know this first hand.  In the summer time in our house, or bill can range usually between $100-$160 a month.  In the winter, it can reach nearly $500 a month.  The nice thing is that most utility companies offer budget billing.

Budget billing takes your average bills over the past 12 months and averages them out.  That way you pay the same amount every month and you can budget for it.  If you are not already on budget billing, now would be a great time to get on board.  With the heating season knocking on our door, your bill will definitely be lower throughout the winter.  It may give you some extra money for Christmas shopping.

Of course, you need to realize that during the summer, you're bill probably would be more than a typical summer bill.  In our case, ours will be about 100 dollars more.

To me it's well worth it, and I feel more comfortable setting up a recurring payment plan when I know what the cost will be.
